The article addresses matters concerned with elaborating a methodology for designing off-grid power supply systems on the basis of renewable energy sources (RES) for supplying power to isolated and hard-to-reach territories of Russia. For off-grid power supply zones, replacement of diesel power plants with RES-based off-grid power supply systems with energy storage subsystems is a pressing issue. To ensure efficient and reliable operation of such power system, it is necessary to justify its optimal composition operating modes in order to achieve the target performance criteria. To address this problem, a multi-level methodology for designing an off-grid RES-based power supply system with a hybrid energy storage is proposed. The methodology includes the following stages: collection and preparation of the initial data set for RES resources and load, construction of a configuration matrix of the power supply system with different ratios of installed capacities of RES-based units and selection of the optimal configuration according to the criterion of minimum capacity of the long-term (hydrogen) storage system, development of models of the power supply system components and intelligent control algorithms based on machine learning methods, simulation of the power supply system operating modes, and optimization of the short-term and long-term storage system parameters based on the simulation analysis results. Based on developed methodology, test calculations of an off-grid power supply system based on RES have been carried out for an energy-isolated settlement in Primorsky Krai.
